4 Ingredient Hot Chocolate
Hot Chocolate is the ultimate morning indulgence. This version is simple and rich and is sure to satisfy your chocolate sweet tooth on any morning or rainy day.
Hot Chocolate is classic. Who doesn’t like it? Especially when it’s topped with some marshmallows or whipped cream. It can be made many different ways- with cocoa powder only, with chocolate chips only or pieces, or with both. I found that the combination of both gives the richest flavour which my family loves.
I usually make this on a weekend when everyone has more time to savour their breakfast. For me, I can’t function without at least 1 cup of coffee on a morning so I like to add a teaspoon of coffee to mine. Try this recipe with or without coffee on the next rainy day or morning.
Ingredients:
3 1/2 cups milk- I use the low fat version, but you can use any that you prefer.
3 tablespoons cocoa powder- I like to use Chief since it’s extremely rich.
1 tablespoon semi sweet chocolate chips.
3 tablespoons sugar- you can add more if you like it sweeter
Mini Marshmallows or Marshmallow Cream (optional)
Reddi Wip whipped cream (optional)
Method:
Add milk, cocoa powder and sugar to a pot and heat on medium.
When it starts to boil, reduce the heat to low and stir to combine.
Add the chocolate chips and stir to melt and incorporate. The chocolate chips has a certain amount of cocoa butter which adds to the richness of the hot chocolate. You can use cocoa powder alone, but you won’t get that extra richness which comes from the chips itself.
Turn off the heat and pour the hot chocolate into your favorite cup. If you want it sweeter, add a little more sugar. Remember that when you add the toppings, it will get sweeter. If it too rich you can always add more milk to tone it down a bit. Add the marshmallow cream or mini marshmallows to the top of the hot chocolate while it’s hot so that it melts.
Add whipped cream if you want and ENJOY!!
