I am a chemical and process engineer by profession, who happens to love being my family's self-taught personal chef. Being in engineering leads to a demanding job, but I like to challenge myself to find the time to cook a decent meal after work (on most days), and I also manage to bake at least 1 thing during the week. Sometimes I go crazy and bake about 3…lol.

I grew up with my mother cooking and baking nonstop for my brother and I, and therefore after I got married, I knew I wanted to do the same for my family. The difference, however, was that she was a nurse who worked fixed shift-hours, but I was an engineer on a processing plant who doesn't always know if I will be leaving on time today or not. As a result of this, I like to challenge myself to get certain things done. As part of “getting it done,” I have to develop ways to use my time as efficiently as I can.

My passion is being a homemaker for my wonderful family which consists of my husband, 2 little girls and five 4-legged friends!! It was hard in the beginning, and it is still hard on some days, but there are simple techniques that you can adapt in order to be able to deal with a wonderful family array as mine.

My style in the kitchen (or anywhere else for a matter of fact), is a rustic one, where I look at recipes or tasks knowing that I do not have a million hours to spend behind it. So I manage my time in the kitchen by multitasking, organizing prep work according to the time it takes, and using techniques and electrical help where needed. I also want to let my readers know that they should not be scared of doing things from scratch! Yes the box brownies tastes delicious, but you can actually do this on your own in a matter of minutes! Ok, maybe an hour.

I love testing and experimenting with new techniques and recipes which is critiqued by my family of course! My inspiration comes from so many sources, but in order to apply these inspirations, you have to have a love for the kitchen as well. Without that foundation, then doing simple things in the kitchen becomes dreaded. But I do believe that somewhere deep down you have a little spark that can ignite that love, at least to an inkling of mine.

About anita’s Circadian

I decided to start this blog because so many people ask me all sorts of questions, and I needed a platform to address some of these answers so that everyone can benefit.

" How do you do it?!!, " "Where do you get the time to work, cook, take care of kids and the family?"  " Can you share that recipe with me?"

After launching my blog, one of the first questions that popped up was “ How do you pronounce it?” Well take a look at my short video to clarify this.

The name of the blog came from a play on the word Circadian, which basically means a rhythm or cycle. And it is sometimes used to describe a daily routine or day-to-day life. Cooking is a huge part of my “circadian,” but there are other things I would like to share with my readers to inspire them to adapt these in their own unique family array. In my blog you will various topics being posted which will all be honest and real in my perspective. I have tried to condense them in the following main areas of focus:

  • Recipes

I make so many dishes and goodies and this is where I will share them. Some recipes will be my personal ones, which I have developed over the years; while some will be recipes that I have tested from other sources. Credit must be given to these sources as they have put in their own labour and sweat into developing these.

One thing I love about cooking meals, is that you can tweak it to please your family's taste buds. One of my favourite cooking personalities once said that "Recipes for cooking meals are just suggestions which you can adjust to suit your palates."   So with the meals I share here, it will be according to my family’s liking and hence it can be adjusted to suit yours.

Specifically to my blog, I want to stress here, that with my recipes, you are guaranteed to learn something or reinforce what you think you knew. Having a process engineering background urges me to question why we do certain things and understand a little bit about the science behind it. When it comes to baking, I want you all to become confident in baking from scratch! Some people tend to think that making things from scratch is territory that you cannot venture into because it's so hard, but I am here to let you know that it is not! It is very easy to do once you understand some of the basic concepts.

  • What I’m Liking

I’m constantly researching and looking for new things out there that can save on time, save on money or are just great inventions. I will not only share this with you, but also give you an avenue of where you can purchase it.

  • Lifestyle

This section will be geared towards snippets about myself, and activities that I do with my family. After having my kids I make an effort to do little things with them around the holiday times. In this section, I will include some things that I like to do with my family and friends,  which can give any reader some ideas for planning ahead for themselves. It is very important to interact with your little kids to ensure that they have these enjoyable memories to reminisce on when they are older. And you know what? This is actually where you can start traditions in your family to keep in the years to come.

  • Tips

I will share my personal tips that I have currently in use. I am all about being efficient and making my prep time as short as possible, and these tips help with that.

  • Dictionary
I will include any words, ingredients or techniques that I think require defining. some may be traditional terms that have been handed down for generations from my ancestors; some may be basic knowledge about ingredients. This will be a working document which I will update as new content pops up.

Like I mentioned before, I’m self taught when it comes to the kitchen, and this blog is strictly based on my opinions and learning which have been established throughout my experience and research. I love learning new things to improve my life and I want to share them with YOU! I believe in sharing my experience to help others, instead of just keeping it to myself.

This is just the start of my journey. Who knows where it will take me? I am ready for this adventure with you all in mind.
